Old Burmese Temple Hanging Used as Protection.

Protective circle depicting Buddha in the center and surrounded by the Arhats and other beings. From central or eastern Burma by either the Bamar or Shan people whom both are known for the scared writing in Pali script that marks the four corners. Natural pigments with fine details. Very old and fascinating piece.

Cotton cloth and cording, pigments.

Good, some staining as well as fading and wear of pigments.

A single piece of cotton hemmed along the 4 edges and twisted cotton cording attached to each corner for hanging. This piece is wonderfully executed with detail drawings and paintings. Talismanic “ingwets” mark each corner. There are 2 places inside the small squares on the lower corners where white pigments cover the original marking either to make corrections or updates to what appear to be numbers.
