Woman’s full length dress Kushutara, Kira
Cotton and silk
56 in. X 92 in.
This colorful kira falls under the kushutara category due to the white background. It is distinctive in the quantity of embellished designs and the colorful yet harmonious balance created by them. The weaver of this magnificent textile masterfully uses color in subtle and dramatic ways that visually enlivens the piece without becoming too busy. The usual borders of continuous Yuroong, and triangles are present at each end. The muted striped borders are also filled with smaller geometric designs as well.
Displayed during the exhibition Bhutanese Textiles; Weaving from the Heart, Bank of Thailand Museum, Chiang Mai, Thailand, 2008-09.
