Oast008 Tibetan Tibet Flint pouch, meecha Leather, iron, brass, coral bead and silver. 5 1/2 in. across 3 3/4 in. top to bottom edge, leather strap 17 ½ inches. Good. Older piece but intact in good condition. This handsome utilitarian object is a traditional component of a Tibetan man’s costume. It’s Tibetan name meecha translates to “fire stone” and that is exactly what it is, a flint pouch and striker. When traveling in the remote Himalayas and Tibetan plateau survival depended on the ability to produce a fire for the making of yak butter tea and warmth.
