Tall, strong, bamboo burden basket w/reinforced rim, possibly Borneo, Indonesia
Iban or Dayak peoples (?)
Borneo Indonesia / Sarawak, Malaysia.
Split bamboo and wood.
16.5 inches wide X 24.5 inches tall. 7 inches across at the base. 2.12 lbs.
Good condition. Two areas of the rim have loose bamboo.
A nice old basket used for collecting in the forest or highlands. Worn high on the back with a simple cord or vine wrapped around the forehead and through loops (missing) to secure it in place. Reinforced at the top and body suggest it was used to carry something heavy and tall.
Was purchased it in Bali Indonesia and was told it came from Borneo, which would suggest the Dayak peoples or one of its subgroups.
