JASM/C002 Haka Chin (?) Chin State, western Burma Shaman’s bell necklace Metal bells, metal disk beads and homespun cotton cording. 32-inch strand. Good, the individual bells have considerable wear due to use. The cotton cording appears newer. $195. Metal as well as bells are very important tools for shamans throughout the world. Metal for the strength and power they possess due to ability to be transformed in to different shapes and withstand fire. Bells are important because many peoples, such as the Chin, believe that evil spirits are afraid of their noise and assist the shaman to evict the spirit from an area or a person. Bells like these are either tied on to the shaman’s waist or worn around the neck. In many cases also tied onto drums or different tools a shaman would use to perform rituals. Well worn with a beautiful patina. |
