JASMC005 M’Kang Chin Mindat area, lower Chin Hills, Western Burma. Bracelet Bronze 2¾ in. across, 2 3/8in. opening. 95grams. Good. Bracelets like this were widely used by the Chin or Zo peoples of western Burma that occupy the majority of Chin State. This piece was collected in the small town of Mrauk Oo on the western edge of Chin State in 97. It’s made of bronze and seems to be about 100 years old. Pieces like these were often handed down from mother to daughter and keep in the family. With the younger generation looking for more contemporary adornment, bracelets such as these and other traditional jewelry are dying out rapidly. It’s very heavy weighing 95 grams |
