Ende
Ende Regency, Central Flores, Indonesia
Women’s upper/lower body garment. Sarong (Indo) zawo kabbi (Endelese)
Cotton
23 in x 58 in. tube form.
Very good

Soft heavyweight cotton makes up this wrapper. Made up of 2 flat warp ikat panels joined at the warped direction to create a tube then the 2 tubes are joined along the selvage to make up a full body tube. They could be worn only as a lower body wrapper or as a full length dress.
Tight warp ikating in red, tan and white on brown natural and chemical dyes cover the entire garment. Designs of horses, diamonds and geometric shapes are laid out in horizontal rows bracketing the central designs of geometric running in the vertical direction. Due to having the horse motif this piece may be considered a zawo jara.
