Tables like these are called daung baung kalat and are used to offer monks and dignitaries meals to be eaten immediately. Due to the size and design, they are very expensive for a family to have commissioned, so reserved for very special occasions.
A three-legged design with a large central serving table made from wood and black natural lacquer, thit si, and another smaller compartment capping the lid, probably for relishes or other condiments. The names of donor’s are carefully inscribed above each of the three legs and they would receive merit each time the table was used. Possibly from the town of Kyaukka which is in the Monywa area, that’s known for its black lacquerware.
A beautiful piece rarely seen in the West.
