Very good condition.

Elegant well-built basket.The wooden slotted base and the coiled wooden supports give this basket strength and pleasing style. The long strip straps are probably replacements of the original ones but were replaced in the field and are suitable for use.
Collected in Northern Thailand early 90’s. The Ta Oi live both in Vietnam and in neighboring Laos. Traditional they would live in the middle and upper hill areas but now have been migrating down to the lower valleys. They are part of the Mon-Khmer language group and, like most groups in the region, are known by several names such as Paco and call themselves Ta uot. The live in close proximity of the Co tu peoples and share common design in weaving and design. Baskets like this one are used every day in the fields or home. For gathering seeds, herbs or woodlands products.
