Silver and copper charm box pendant, gau. Tibet

Both Tibetans and Bhutanese call boxes like these gaus. They are worn around the neck and would contain small scared objects including Buddha images and prayers. A silver front with a copper back and a bead of sky blue turquoise is set in the center. The wearing of the metal is a testament to its age.

Good. The silver front has 2 small holes due to wear as well as a small dent. The back as a dent.Boxes like these are used both by the Bhutanese and the Tibetans. They are worn around the neck and would contain small scared objects including Buddha images and prayers. Made of a silver front that slides into the copper back and secured with a leather strap. Beautiful reposee work decorates the silver front with a turquoise bead set in the center. It has a lovely patina from years of handling and use. Seems to be of considerable age.
