Pieces like this are applied onto the main body of a garment to create an beautiful ensemble of color and style. They women judge each others attire by how many different sewing and weaving techniques her sister has used to create her outfit. This piece is just one of many that would have been applied to make up the full dress. It’s used as a collar piece that would be sewn on to her jacket.
