Bamboo, wood, lacquer.

Good condition, one spot on the side has the lacquer missing and you can see the bamboo base. The bamboo is stable. Slight chipping along the bottom edge.
Offering receptacles such as this one are called hsun-ok. There is a wide range of designs and styles depending on where it’s made. This one is from the town of Kyaukka, in the Monywa area which is along the banks of the Chindwin River. Its called mingla ok because its mainly used in a local flower ceremony. Kyaukka is known for its black lacquerware and as well as their strength.
This hsun-ok is made from coiled bamboo and wood core and then layered with natural lacquer burnished to a shine. Just about every Burmese home has some form of these elegant vessels that would be used to transport and offer gifts to a monastery or temple for merit. Donations of any kind would be carried in a hsun-ok. Flowers, food, money or robes would be placed in side and is offered to the monks. Every time used the family of the person who commissioned the piece would receive merit.
