The Dong or Kam people live in southwest China in the providence(s) of Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi. They hold elaborate festivals throughout the year in which thousands of people come from the neighboring villages. Both men and woman dress up in exquisite colorful customs which the women make themselves. Pieces like this are applied onto the main body of a garment to create an beautiful ensemble of color and style. They women judge each other's attire by how many different sewing and weaving techniques her sister has used to create her outfit. This piece is just one of many that would have been applied to make up the full dress. This probably was a shoulder piece due to embroider tips used to gain hight.
