Worn as a vest for protection against injury from a variety of weapons, sickness or malevolent spirits. Magico/religious traditions that go back over a thousand years are still practiced in many areas of South East Asia. Many of the forms are thought to have been first created in India practiced by priests of the Brahman class. These Brahmans performed rituals, cast divinations, and made talismans for their “clients” that were based on the person’s date of birth, horoscope and numerology. Here blocks of squares and circles in different configurations were filled in with specific numbers and symbols that were determined would protect the owner from harm.
