$500.
The Bamar (Burmese) have long been skilled at elaborate, decorative wood carving especially for the many pagodas that fill this beautiful land. Sumptuary laws limited carving, gilding, and elaborate roofing to monasteries and the homes of nobles and high officials. The peacock, emblem of the sun and of the Kon-baung Dynasty (1752-1885), was popularly placed over a doorway or windows.
