OASI/T001 Toraja Central Sulawesi, Indonesia Ceremonial offering basket Split bamboo, bent bamboo and pigments 10.75 inches h. by 12 inches w. by 12 inches deep (rim), 5.5 inches w. by 5.5 inches deep. Good $180. Baskets like these are used by the Toraja people to present offerings during ceremonies to the Aluk or the animist gods. The base is made of a continuous piece of bent bamboo and is lashed onto the basket form, which has been painted in red, black and white in typical Toraja patterns. The name Idjah has been carved into one side of the bamboo base. |
