The leather is old and cracked. $175. These rugged bags were used by travelers in the high Himalayas of Bhutan. They were essential for survival in that they contained the tealeaves, salt and yak butterballs for traditional Tibetan tea. This beverage and parched tsampa provide the main sustenance in this remote region. An artifact such as this, that has an important utilitarian purpose, is rarely available in the West. |
